Jonathan distributed dollars to groups while in Lagos last week - Gov Fashola
Reacting to a statement credited to President Jonathan that the PDP will set Lagos residents free from bondage if elected into government, Governor Fashola alleged that during his visit to Lagos lastweek, pres. Jonathan doled out dollars to all the groups he met with at the State House in Marina. Fashola made the allegation while inspecting some ongoing projects in Ibeju-Lekki yesterday Feb. 22nd
"I want to assume that he did not make a statement that he would deliver Lagos residents from bondage. The question to ask Mr. President is whether he'd come to free them from bondage. He was here for 5 days meeting with different people and groups, distributing money in dollars. It is an un-presidential statement made in an act of desperation. That means he lived in bondage in five days if he had come into the state to free people. If he can live here for five days moving with patrol vehicles that we paid for, let him go and spend five days in Chibok and he will know what bondage is,” the governor said

Buhari Will Inherit Empty Treasury If He Defeats Jonathan
Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Muhammadu Buhari, has said that he would inherit a huge debt profile and empty treasury if elected president, expressing confidence that his wealth of experience would assist in turning the situation around.
He also stated that his party’s economic policies are conceived to be people-centred, adding that the country would for the first time in decades experience a truly pro-people Federal Government under him.
“It is apparent that the Federal Government has suddenly found itself in a bind with plummeting crude oil prices in the international market, but typical of a team that lacks capacity for anticipatory actions, the Federal Government has been running from pillar to post in a vain bid to stabilize the economy.
“Unfortunately, all conceived palliatives applied to save the nation’s declining economic indicators have merely scrapped the surface of the problems leaving the mass of Nigerians desperate, confused and hungrier.
“With external debt standing at more than $10 billion and our internal debts at more than $50 billion, it is without doubt that President Jonathan is driving Nigeria into economic wilderness. This should be a cause for concern for all well-meaning Nigerians, more so when the Federal Government responses to these rising economic challenges have, at best, been casual.
“Emblematic of this casual, non profound approach to the management of the national economy is the Central Bank of Nigeria’s devaluation of the national currency in November 2014 while retaining the Retail Dutch Auction System (RDAS).
“Dramatically, just under three months after that devaluation, the CBN, obviously buffeted by unanticipated dynamics in the foreign exchange market, announced the closure of the RDAS and the Wholesale Dutch Auction System (WDAS). This shows clearly an uncoordinated template in the management of the national economy.”
He also stated that his party’s economic policies are conceived to be people-centred, adding that the country would for the first time in decades experience a truly pro-people Federal Government under him.
“It is crystal clear that our revenues are dwindling by the day and if we must survive, we cannot continue on this path of near absence of accountability, mismanagement, outright waste and jamboree that has characterised the management of public resources under the Jonathan-led PDP government.
“We can assure the mass of Nigerian people that help is on the way. We know that an APC controlled Federal Government will obviously inherit a huge debt profile and an empty treasury from this PDP Federal Government. We are confident of turning the situation around.

Liverpool’s Markovic gets four-match ban
Liverpool’s Serbian winger Lazar Markovic has been given a four-match ban from European competition, UEFA confirmed on Tuesday.
The suspension follows his sending-off for a flailing arm at Behrang Safari in the Reds’ final Champions League group game against FC Basel in December.
Markovic was given an extra game on top of the normal three-match ban for violent conduct because he was sent off playing for Benfica in a Europa League match last May.
He had already been substituted in the Europa League semi-final against Juventus but was red-carded by English referee Mark Clattenburg for his part in a touchline fracas.
Markovic reacted to the ban on Twitter with a post that simply read: “4?”
Liverpool failed to qualify for the knockout stage of the Champions League, instead dropping into the Europa League last 32, in which they will face Besiktas.
The first leg against the Turkish side will be at Anfield on Thursday.

Arrigo Sacchi slammed by Italy govt in racism row
A senior member of the Italian government on Tuesday condemned Arrigo Sacchi’s claim there are too many black players in Italian youth football as a “grave error.”
“The Italy of 30 years ago is not the Italy of today,” said Graziano Delrio, the State Secretary to Prime Minister Matteo Renzi who also holds responsibility for sport in the Italian council of ministers.
“Today there are young players who are Italian citizens in fact and by right given that they were born and raised in Italy even if their parents had overseas roots,” Delrio said in a statement.
“They are part of the young generations who go to our schools, who play on our football and sports fields.
“And the theme of skin colour is certainly not where we should start trying to revitalise our youth system.”
Sacchi, a revered former AC Milan and Italy coach, has been condemned around the world for his comments that there were “too many blacks” playing in Italy’s under-20 leagues and that the country “now has no dignity or pride.”
Sacchi has insisted that his comments have been taken out of context and that he is not a racist.
Death toll from Biu checkpoint blast, climbs to 38
wo suicide attacks in northeast Nigeria killed at least 38 people Tuesday, after Boko Haram razed a town and as violence raged across the embattled region less than six weeks from elections.
The Islamist insurgency has already forced a delay in the vote, initially scheduled for February 14, and officials voiced hope that a regional military offensive could contain the bloodshed before the new polling day, March 28.
But the latest wave of attacks blamed on the rebels underscored the challenge facing Nigeria and its neighbours — Cameroon, Chad and Niger — despite claims of major successes in the joint operation launched this month.

Niger Army Says Our Soldiers Are Running From Boko Haram; Nigeria Military Fires Back
The Nigerian military has responded with anger after its soldiers were dismissed by the defence authorities of Niger as “cowards” who run away from Boko Haram, in a rare public tit-for-tat between the two countries involved in the fight against the extremist group.
Niger’s Defence Ministry had boasted in a statement that its soldiers, unlike their Nigerian counterparts, do not run away in the face of battle with Boko Haram militants.
“Our soldiers are not like Nigerians. They don’t run,” the statement said.
